The Isabel M.S. Whittier Trial Papers ; 1939-1942.

The Whittier collection comprises 2 cubic feet of materials and is arranged into 5 sub-groups: background files, legal background files, legal briefs, correspondence and publications. The files include the instructor's course load, samples of examinations, assignments, and requests for transfer. There is also a binder titled the "Case of Henry L. Klein, " a case similar to Ms. Whittier involving dismissal hearing. The legal files contain testimony of Professor Whittier and six others: 3 Brooklyn College Faculty members, a statistician, a clerical assistant from the Brooklyn College Registrar ofice, and a Professor of History at City College. The briefs for both sides are included in the sub-group along with miscellaneous responses, and what other questions needed to be raised. The files dealing with the correspondence about the Whittier case are primarily outside interpretations of Whittier's style of teaching (asked by the school's attorney to improve her case). The last sub-group contains publications that were brought into evidence during the trial. They pertain to examinations and teaching techniques.
